About the Agency for Jewish Learning

The Agency for Jewish Learning partners with synagogues, schools, early childhood centers, youth groups, Jewish agencies and community organizations, and works with families, and individuals across our region to nurture a vibrant and engaged Jewish community. AJL’s Board of Directors and our skilled professional staff work to build the community’s capacity to deliver inspiring Jewish learning experiences to the largest number of people.

AJL helps Jewish institutions understand and meet the needs of learners with a broad spectrum of methods and programs. We address experiential education, family education, informal education and differentiation. These and other methodologies have long been represented in our tradition, and they not only teach knowledge, but impart a sense of meaning, to answer the question: Why be Jewish?

We work to facilitate change and support diverse, engaging, innovative and inspiring Jewish learning experiences for all ages in formal and informal settings throughout Greater Pittsburgh. Our current priorities are:

  • Systemic improvement in synagogue education,,
  • Engaging teens in Jewish learning and Jewish life, and
  • Engaging families in Jewish life and learning.

We have a special focus on developing Jewish leadership, and offer many adult Jewish learning opportunities. These priorities are manifest in the programs we offer to support Jewish educators, include those with special needs, educate teens, and much, much more.

You can find out more about these exciting programs by browsing our website, or checking our online calendar of events.

The AJL admits students of any race, nationality and ethnic origin to its programs.

We invite you to help ensure the future of Judaism and our Jewish community by making a donation to the AJL today. Thank you!
