Family Education and Engagement

2014 Guide for Making Indoor Gardens with Young Jewish Gardeners Idea Guide for Israel’s National Holidays: Yom Ha'Zikaron, Yom Ha'Atzmaut and Yom Yerushalayim

Engaging families to participate in Jewish life and learning, particularly with young children, is crucial to ensuring a vibrant community. Hundreds of Jewish families in Pittsburgh are not affiliated with a Jewish organization or synagogue, and hundreds more are members of synagogues but are not actively engaged in Jewish life. AJL works with synagogues, the Jewish Community Centers (JCC), Jewish day schools, and early childhood centers to develop community capacity to engage families.

Programming supported by AJL includes the Jewish Early Childhood Education Initiative (JECEI) to engage families with Jewish life through excellence in local Jewish early childhood centers, PJ Library, programming for families with young children, Special Needs services to include families and children who would otherwise not be able to participate in Jewish life, and the Mothers Circle program at the JCC for non-Jewish mothers in interfaith families raising Jewish children.
