“Educate every child according to his way” - Proverbs 22:6
The Agency for Jewish Learning endeavors to embody the all-inclusive nature of Jewish education as passed down to us through tradition. Our special needs programs bring students with moderate to severe disabilities into the mainstream of Jewish education, youth groups, and synagogue life.
Advocacy
The AJL sponsors the Special Needs Advisory Committee, a group of concerned parents, Jewish agency professionals, rabbis, and community volunteers committed to the growth of inclusive opportunities for all Jewish persons with special needs in formal and informal Jewish learning programs.
Consultants and Aides
AJL provides special education consultants to Pittsburgh-area congregational schools and Jewish agencies and programs to assist in including students and young adults with special learning needs in both formal and informal Jewish education and programming.
Educational Seminars
AJL staff and consultants work with religious schools and other Jewish agencies and groups to develop training and educational seminars for teachers, classroom aides, and community volunteers working with children and transitional age youth with special needs.
